We restore, preserve, sustain and celebrate ecology with water as our life nurturing element.

Constructed Wetlands

Firefly offers Design & Consultancy for customized Constructed Wetland Treatment Systems depending on the type of effluent and other parameters

Application

Natural wetland ecosystems are known as the ‘Earth’s kidneys’ as they filter pollutants from water that flows through them and transform them into bioavailable plant nutrients. Constructed Wetland Treatment Systems are engineered structures that imitate natural wetland ecosystems in order to treat and recycle a variety of wastewaters including urban runoff, municipal, industrial and agricultural effluents and acid mine drainage.

Our Approach

Unlike conventional STPs (Sewage Treatment Plants), these systems are cost-effective and mostly gravity-based, requiring minimal to no energy, minimal maintenance suitable for non-specialized labourers, naturally resistant to fluctuations in water quality and quantity, and offering at the same time, numerous ecological benefits. Utilizing a combination of Anaerobic and Aerobic processes our systems make use of the available land within your property to treat and polish wastewater in accordance with government norms

Ornamental Ponds

Firefly provides Design, Consultancy and Execution of unique and varied Ornamental Ponds. Firefly's design ethics always incorporate water recycling, reuse and harvesting within the consultancy service.

Our Ornamental Ponds are beautiful niches that brighten and make home spaces fresh and lively. Incorporating balanced water features in your home charges the surroundings with positive energies in and around your ecosystem by bringing out peace and tranquillity.

A properly designed natural biological pond is self-cleaning and thus a powerful buffer to incidental pollution from air quality, fauna, runoff or accidental spills. Aquatic plants require minimal maintenance and are ideal air purifiers that significantly increase the levels of oxygen around them.

We do not use toxic chemicals such as chlorine or bromine that are harmful to aquatic and human life. We can incorporate fish, turtles, lighting features, filters, waterfalls, brooks, statues and other elements within the design, based on the industry and your personal preferences.

Firefly in collaboration with our partners offer tailor-made design solutions for your personal preferences, and market requirements

Water Harvesting

Our approach to Rain-Water harvesting not only addresses water that is collected from Roof-tops i.e. Surface Water, but also harvesting and management of water within the Sub-Soil, Deep Soil and Groundwater.

Application

Water is the most precious commodity for all forms of life. Cognizant of the fact that fresh water needs to be saved and judiciously used, a growing number of people are interested in Rain-water Harvesting and Ground-water Recharge for their homes and industries. Although India as a whole is not a water scarce country, its water is unevenly distributed between seasons and across regions. India’s complex hydrology calls for a holistic approach to build resilience against the uncertainties of climate change.

Our Approach

From individual homes, apartments and business centers to resorts, farms and plantations, Firefly provides solutions to maximize your water harvesting capacities in all scenarios. We utilize unique pre-treatment processes before harvested water is stored in sumps and open wells, to ensure prevention of bacteria and safe removal of harmful substances from run-offs in agricultural fields and roof-tops.

We also provide Holistic Planning & Design for Watershed Management for the purposes of flood control, groundwater recharge, events of dry spells, reclamation and protection of lakes and wetland ecosystems in both urban and rural areas. Firefly believes in designing simple, effective, nature-based solutions that are restorative in the initial years, become sustainable as the designs gain equilibrium and ultimately gain resilience to climate change.

The solutions we employ are dependent on the geographical location and soil of your property; sometimes water can be harvested and stored in open water bodies whereas other times, it becomes necessary to use soil as the reservoir.

Bio Pools

Firefly in collaboration with our partners offer tailor-made design solutions for your personal preferences, and market requirements

Application

Unlike Chlorinated pools and Ozonated pools that utilise extremely high amounts of energy for disinfection and maintenance, Bio pools use the power of nature i.e., biological and mechanical filtration, to keep the water clean requiring minimal energy. They consist of a deep, central swimming area and a shallower surrounding area with specialized water purifying aquatic plants that conceal custom-built filters and a central pump system for water recycling.

We provide Design, Consultancy and Execution for Bio Swimming Pools in collaboration with our partners. Firefly’s design ethics always incorporate water recycling, water reuse and water harvesting within the consultancy service.

The Water Nursery

Firefly’s ‘The Water Nursery’ houses over 200 aquatic and wetland plant species.

Choose from a carefully curated range of aquatic and wetland plant species that are organically grown and professionally delivered across the country. Firefly’s ‘The Water Nursery’ houses over 200 aquatic and wetland plant species. These plants are known for their specialized abilities to pick up heavy metals, toxins, polluting organics and other contaminants in different types of water. These plants naturally purify air due to their unique adaptations to sensitive wetland ecosystems.

Hence, they find wide applications in Engineered Wetland Phyto-remediation Systems, Constructed Floating Wetland Systems, Natural Swimming Pools, Wetland Conservation and Research as well as Ornamental Fish Ponds and Urban Landscape Designing.

Some of the plants are also aromatic species; and some have medicinal properties hence, find use in the Pharmaceutical Industry as well as Aromatic Industries.
We also customize Aquatic Microhabitats in terracotta and ceramic planters for delivery in Bangalore.

The striking Moorhen is our mascot for ‘The Water Nursery’ owing to its constant visit to our nursery in Hunsur, Karnataka

The aquatic plants offer numerous benefits to the ecosystem by attracting biodiversity, providing relief to birds and insects and contributing to carbon sequestration

In our wetland conservation and restoration efforts, we incubate new and rare wetland plant species and archive our research based on species function within natural wetland ecosystems.
